1. Anil
(Lesson 2- The Theif’s Story)
Anil
was a kind person. He simple and easy going young man. He was tall and lean. He
is interested in sports like wrestling . He was not very rich and could not
employ Hari Singh as a cook. He had the patience and goodness. He taught Hari
Singh to cook. He also taught him to read , write and add numbers. He knew that
Hari Singh stole his money but he ignored this fact. Anil was a writer. He wrote
for magazines and made money in fits and starts. He was a very trusting person.
He was generous and paid Hari Singh when he got some money. Hari Singh had
tried to steal the money from him. Anil forgave Hari Singh. Thus, he transformed Hari Singh from a thief
to a good fellow.
अनिल एक दयालु व्यक्ति था। वह सरल और साधारण युवक था। वह
लंबा और दुबला था। उसे कुश्ती जैसे खेलों में दिलचस्पी थी। वह बहुत अमीर नहीं था
और हरि सिंह को रसोइए के रूप में नियुक्त नहीं कर सकता था। उसके पास धैर्य और
अच्छाई थी। उसने हरि सिंह को खाना बनाना सिखाया। उसने उसे पढ़ना, लिखना और संख्याएँ
जोड़ना भी सिखाया। वह जानता था कि हरि सिंह ने उसका पैसा चुरा लिया था लेकिन उसने
इस तथ्य को नजरअंदाज कर दिया। अनिल एक लेखक था। वह पत्रिकाओं के लिए लिखता था और
कभी कभी पैसा कमाता था। वह बहुत भरोसा करने वाला व्यक्ति था। वह उदार था और हरि
सिंह को भुगतान किया जब उसे कुछ पैसे मिले। हरि सिंह ने उसके पैसे चुराने की कोशिश
की थी। अनिल ने हरी सिंह को माफ कर दिया। इस प्रकार,
उसनेे हरि सिंह को चोर से अच्छे इन्सान में बदल दिया।

Griffin (Lesson 5- Footprints
without Feet)
Griffin was the main character of the lesson ‘Footprints without
Feet’. He was a scientist, yet he had many flaws in his character. He had no
conscience. He was not kind to others. He discovered a rare drug to make human
body invisible. He does not use his intelligence for the human welfare. He
stole things from a shop and beat the shopkeeper. He stole money from his
landlady’s house. He beat the landlady and her husband. He beat the policeman
who arrived to arrest him. We can say that Griffin was a brilliant scientist
but he was a lawless person. He was a criminal. He was a threat to society.
ग्रिफिन ‘फुट्प्रिंट विदाउट
फीट’ पाठ के प्रमुख पात्र था। वह एक वैज्ञानिक
था, फिर भी उसके चरित्र में कई खामियां थीं। उसका कोई जमीर नहीं
था। वह दूसरों के प्रति दयालु नहीं था। उसने मानव शरीर को अदृश्य बनाने के लिए एक
दुर्लभ दवा की खोज की। वह अपनी बुद्धि का उपयोग मानव कल्याण के लिए नहीं करता है।
उसने एक दुकान से सामान चुराया और दुकानदार को पीटा। उसने अपने मकान मालकिन के घर
से पैसे चुराए थे। उसने मकान मालकिन और उसके पति को पीटा। उसे गिरफ्तार करने
पहुंचे पुलिसकर्मी को उसने पीट दिया। हम कह सकते हैं कि ग्रिफिन एक वैज्ञानिक था
लेकिन वह एक अपराधी व्यक्ति था। वह एक अपराधी था। वह समाज के लिए खतरा था।
3. Matilda (The Necklace)
Matilda is the young and beautiful wife of Mr. Loisel. She is proud
of her beauty. She is unhappy with her poor lot. She thinks she is a victim of
social injustice and irony of fate. She is unhappy with her husband’s small
house and old furniture. In short she is
sick of her present miserable life. She loves her husband deeply. He does his
best to make her as happy as he can afford. Matilda is a simple, child like
immature girl. She borrowed a necklace from her friend. She went to a party and
lost it. The loss of the necklace proves a turning point in her life. It makes
her a careful and responsible woman. Before the loss of the necklace she is a
thoughtless, ungrateful, proud beauty. After the loss she becomes a mature,
humble and grateful wife.
मटिल्डा मिस्टर लोयजेल की युवा और सुंदर पत्नी
है। उसे अपनी सुंदरता पर गर्व है। वह अपनी गरबी से बहुत दुखी है। वह सोचती है कि
वह सामाजिक अन्याय और भाग्य की विडंबना का शिकार है। वह अपने पति के छोटे घर और
पुराने फर्नीचर से नाखुश है। संक्षेप में वह अपने वर्तमान दयनीय जीवन से ऊब चुकी
है। वह अपने पति से गहरा प्यार करती है। वह उसे खुश करने की पूरी कोशिश करता है, जितना
वह खर्च कर सकता है करता है। मटिल्डा एक सरल, अपरिपक्व लड़की की तरह है। उसने
अपनी दोस्त से हार मांगा। उसे पहनकर वह पार्टी में गई और हार को वहां खो दिया।
मांगे हुए हार का खो जाना उसके जीवन में एक महत्वपूर्ण मोड़ साबित होता है। यह उसे
एक सावधान और जिम्मेदार महिला बनाता है। हार के खोने से पहले वह एक विचारहीन, कृतघ्न, गर्वित
सुंदर महिला है। हार के खोने के बाद वह एक परिपक्व, विनम्र और कृतज्ञ पत्नी बन
जाती है।
4. Oliver Lutkins (The Hack Driver)
The hack driver seemed to be a simple countryman at first
appearance. He was ready to help
the narrator (the lawyer). The lawyer was in search of Lutkin. The hack driver
took him to various places where he might find Lutkin. The next day the case was
to come up in the court. He was unable to find Lutkins. So, the lawyer was
asked to go back to New Mullion with a man who had worked with Lutkins.
The lawyer got shocked to find that the hack driver himself was Lutkin. He
felt humiliated and. Lutkins was a hard fellow to catch. He was always up to
something or the other. He took the narrator for a ride. He befooled him.
हैक ड्राइवर पहली बार में एक साधारण ग्रामीण लग
रहा था। वह लेखक की मदद के लिए तैयार था। वकील लुटकिन की तलाश में था। हैक चालक
उसे विभिन्न स्थानों पर ले गया, जहाँ उसे लुटकिन मिल सकता है।
अगले दिन मामला अदालत में आना था। वह लुत्किंस को खोजने में असमर्थ था। इसलिए, वकील को
एक ऐसे व्यक्ति के साथ न्यू मुलियन वापस जाने के लिए कहा गया जिसने लुत्किंस के
साथ काम किया था। वकील यह जानकर हैरान रह गए कि हैक ड्राइवर खुद लुटकिन था। उसने
अपमानित महसूस किया। लुटकिन को खोजना कठिन था। वह हमेशा किसी-न-किसी चीज के लिए गया
हुआ होता था। वह लेखक को सवारी के लिए ले गया (उसे मूर्ख बनाया)। उसने उसे बेवकूफ
बनाया।
5. Bholi (Lesson 9- Bholi)
Bholi’s real name was Sulekha. She was called Bholi which means
the simpleton, as she was a backward child. She was the fourth daughter of
Numberdar Ramlal who had seven children. Bholi remained a backward child due to
an injury in her head in childhood. She was fair and pretty when she was born.
But she had an attack of smallpox. It left deep black marks all over her body.
She started speaking only when she turned five. But she stammered when she
spoke. As a result she was always mimicked or made fun of by the other children.
She was not healthy and strong. She was frightened at first when her father
wanted to take her to school. The teacher was very encouraging and friendly to
her. This made her gain confidence to speak. With the help of her teacher,
Bholi turned into a confident girl. She no longer stammered and could speak
properly. She even had the courage to refuse marrying the lame old man because
he was greedy and asked money from her father to marry her.
भोली का असली नाम सुलेखा था। उसे लोग भोली कहते
थे जिसका मतलब है साधारण,
क्योंकि वह एक पिछड़ी हुई बच्ची थी। वह नंबरदार
रामलाल की चैथी बेटी थी,
जिसके सात बच्चे थे। बचपन में सिर में चोट लगने
के कारण भोली एक पिछड़ी बच्ची बनी रही। जब वह पैदा हुई थी तब वह काफी गोरी और सुंदर
थी। लेकिन उसे चेचक हो गया था। इसके कारण उसके पूरे शरीर पर गहरे काले निशान हो
गए। पाँच साल की होने पर ही उसने बोलना शुरू किया। लेकिन जब वह बोली तो वह हकलाने
लग गई। इसलिए वह हमेशा दुखी रहती थी या दूसरे बच्चों द्वारा उसका मजाक बनाया जाता
था। वह स्वस्थ और मजबूत नहीं थी। जब पहली बार उसके पिता उसे स्कूल ले जाना चाहते
थे, तो वह घबरा गई थी। शिक्षक उसके लिए बहुत
उत्साहजनक और दोस्ताना थी। इससे उसे बोलने का आत्मविश्वास मिला। अपनी शिक्षिका की
मदद से भोली में आत्मविश्वास आया। वह अब हकलाती नहीं थी और ठीक से बोल पाती थी।
यहां तक कि वह लंगड़े बूढ़े व्यक्ति से शादी करने से इंकार करने की हिम्मत रखती थी
क्योंकि वह लालची था और अपने पिता से उससे शादी करने के लिए पैसे मांग रहा था।
